Last week the question was: What is wrong with this tomato?
This is the work of Russet Mites. This is a very tiny mite that is almost impossible to see with the naked eye. Growers usually dont know they have them until the symptoms appear. Feeding damage leaves the fruit looking much like a potato and turn the leaves a greasy bronze color.
Though they cause some very unique symptoms, Russet Mites are a farely rare pest in South Carolina. Here is some more info from the University of Florida. http://ipm.ifas.ufl.edu/resources/success_stories/T&PGuide/pdfs/Chapter4/Russet_Mite.pdf
Here is the question for this week: What is this?
