Question of the Week: Paraquat

Last week the question was:  What happened to this corn?

The spots on this corn are from Gromoxone (paraquat) burn.  A field was burned down in preparation for planting cotton and the Gromoxone drifted across the road to this corn field.  We see a lot of this around planting season and its usually not concerning.  Paraquat is a contact herbicide and has no systemic activity, so new foliage that develops after the burn will be unaffected.  Regardless, please take this as a reminder to be mindful of the wind speed and direction when spraying any pesticides.

Here is this week’s question:  What kind of bird will hatch from these eggs?
