Question of the Week: Praying Mantis

Last week the question was:  What predatory insect is hiding in this photo?

There is a praying mantis hiding in this photo.  These are great predators of lots of different insect and can be found all over South Carolina.  The Carolina mantid was made the official state insect in 1988.  The Chinese mantid is another species that can be found in SC and is a fair amount larger than the Carolina mantid.  For more info on praying mantids, take a look at this page.
